CertainTeed Attic Insulation Nationwide

CertainTeed Attic Insulation: The Torrance Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible attic insulation throughout Torrance with typical installed pricing between $1.40 and $3.10 per square foot, depending on the product line and your attic’s access. Same-day or next-day installation is usually available, and we carry CertainTeed InsulSafe, TrueComfort, and OPTIMA on our trucks. Most Torrance homeowners call us after noticing uneven room temperatures, a sudden jump in their electric bill, or insulation that looks matted down and gray instead of fluffy and light.

If you’ve got CertainTeed insulation that isn’t doing its job, you don’t need a sales pitch. You need a straight answer about what’s failing, what it costs to fix, and who’s going to show up at your door. That’s what this page gives you.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes three blown-in fiberglass lines you’re likely to find in a Torrance attic: InsulSafe (their standard loose-fill fiberglass, white or pink depending on age), TrueComfort (a step up with slightly better thermal performance), and OPTIMA (their top-tier blown-in system, often installed with a fabric netting over rafters). There are also CertainTeed fiberglass batts and rolls – R-11 through R-38 in most cases – though blown-in is far more common in existing South Bay attics.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips people up: CertainTeed blown-in fiberglass can settle and lose R-value if it ever got wet, and you cannot just fluff it back up. Once it compacts, the air pockets that do the insulating are gone. The label on the attic floor or rafter will tell us the original R-value and product line. If there’s no label, we measure the settled depth and do the math. We carry OEM CertainTeed material and can match your existing product directly, which matters if you’re topping off rather than starting over. Aftermarket fiberglass from other brands will work mechanically, but CertainTeed’s density and coverage ratings are specific enough that we recommend staying with CertainTeed when adding to existing CertainTeed.

Signs Your CertainTeed Attic Insulation Is Failing

  • Rooms feel fine in the morning and hot by 3 p.m. Coastal Torrance sun heats your roof all day. Insulation that’s settled to half its original depth can’t slow that heat transfer, so your second floor or west-facing rooms bake in the afternoon.
  • Your AC runs constantly in July and August. Air conditioning has to work harder when the attic barrier is thin. A 30% jump in summer cooling cost compared to last year is usually insulation, not the AC unit.
  • You can see the ceiling joists. If the insulation is so settled or thin that the wooden joists poke through, you’re looking at less than R-19 in most cases. Torrance homes built before 1990 often have exactly this problem.
  • The insulation looks matted, gray, or has gaps along the eaves. Moisture from coastal fog or old roof leaks compresses fiberglass permanently. Once compressed, it’s done. No product revives it.
  • Pest activity in the attic. Rodents tunnel through fiberglass, pushing it aside and leaving bare spots. We see this regularly in neighborhoods around Wilson Park and the older streets off Crenshaw, along with the droppings to prove it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Torrance, full attic insulation replacement on a 1,200-square-foot attic typically runs $1,680 to $3,720, including removal of old material when needed and new blown-in or batt installation. Add another $400 to $900 if we’re removing compacted, rodent-soiled, or water-damaged insulation first. Here’s the breakdown we give every homeowner before work starts:

Service Typical Range (Torrance, CA)
Inspect and measure existing insulation Free with installation
Remove old CertainTeed insulation (if failed/contaminated) $0.35 – $0.75 per sq ft
Install new CertainTeed blown-in or batts (R-38) $1.40 – $2.60 per sq ft
Air sealing gaps, top plates, and penetrations $200 – $500 (added to total)
Same-day attic insulation replacement No extra charge

Every Torrance job gets a written price before any work begins, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If insulation fails within a year, we come back and make it right, free. That’s labor and materials, in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

Blown-in fiberglass is not a high-tension danger like garage door springs or electrical panel work, so you can absolutely inspect your own attic. Go up with a flashlight and check the depth. If it’s under 10 inches of settled fiberglass in a 2×6 ceiling, you’re under R-30 and losing money every summer. What we don’t recommend is the DIY fix. Rental blowers are messy, you’ll likely under-insulate, and most homeowners we follow after a weekend attic project wish they hadn’t tried it. Blown-in insulation requires a second person feeding the hopper, proper respirator protection, and an eye for baffles and air sealing that only comes from doing it daily.

If you want an honest read on what’s up there, call (424) 306-0725. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician – with name and photo sent to you before the visit – to measure, quote, and get it done right. Garrett Sloane grew up in Los Angeles and trained at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he’s been in South Bay attics for the better part of two decades. His rule is simple: “Tell me what’s up there and I’ll tell you what it’s actually going to take.”
